John FieldJohn Field (1782-1837), who pioneered the nocturne genre, made his debut as a pianist in Dublin at the age of 10 and left for London the following year to study with Clementi. Clementi accompanied Field on a series of tours beginning in 1802, first to Paris and then to Germany and Russia. Field performed his own compositions everywhere they went to great acclaim, and from 1803 he settled in Petersburg, Russia, where he made his home as a pedagogue and performer. Field is known for composing the world's first piano piece in the "nocturne" genre before Chopin. The sound of the extended song over beautifully blended arpeggios was innovative and unprecedented. Stefan Irmer is a pianist born in 1962 in Paderborn, Germany. He also accompanies songs and has performed with renowned singers such as Kurt Moll.Since 1992, he has also been teaching at one of his alma maters, the Cologne Conservatory. He has also released highly acclaimed piano works by Rossini and Clementi on MD+G. Universal Music/IMS
