But their spirit of musical adventure in pursuit of deep blues and soul power has always been at the heart of their music. Their latest album, "OHIO PLAYERS," their twelfth, was released in April of this year. Featuring longtime collaborator Dan "The Automator" Nakamura, Beck, Noel Gallagher and Greg Kurstin, as well as cult legends Juicy J and Lil' Noid from the Memphis rap scene, and many other friends and artists. The album is funky, groovy, and fun as it blends the talents of the participating guests with the sound of The Black Keys. Commenting on these collaborations, Patrick Carney said, "We've had such an enlightened experience. "It's this kind of enlightenment for us." We have this realization that we can ask our friends to help us make music."Interestingly, we both write songs with other people--Dan does it often (both as a solo artist and as a producer) and I do it when I'm producing. That's what we do. Dan Orbach adds, "Whoever we work with, we're in it together. We don't feel like we're sacrificing anything that makes us unique, no matter who we're working with. It just feels like we have a special addition. We just expanded our musical palette with people we wanted to work with. We're helping them and their ideas to flourish.
