Description:
Kaplerová was born in 1915 in Brno, then a territory of the Austro-Hungarian Empire (now the Czech Republic). She showed musical talent from an early age and began composing music at the age of nine, attracting attention as a child prodigy. From the Brno Conservatory, she went on to the Prague Conservatory, where she studied under Thalich and Novák. At the age of 22, she won a scholarship to study at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. She studied under Martineau, a fellow Paris-based musician, and her works attracted attention throughout Europe, being performed not only in the Czech Republic but also in London, where she won numerous awards and showed promise for the future. However, in 1940, she became ill and died at the age of 25 in Montpellier, where she had been evacuated. This album offers a complete overview of piano works by a woman composer who lived a short life, from her early "Compositions," which exude youthful energy, to "Dances," an unfinished work that was never published. Performing is Kaplerová's teacher, Koukl, who released the complete piano works of Martineau. Naxos Japan
