Description:
A collection of modern and contemporary French works for piano and orchestra performed by mid-career German pianist Florian Uhrich. This selection is a sequel to the "French Piano Concertos" (93.302), recorded between 2011 and 2012, and includes even more unusual works than its predecessor, such as Boulanger's "Fantasie". Francais' concerto is a compact work of less than 20 minutes in total, but it has a delightful and lively structure, with a fast-moving, joyful first movement, a gentle second movement, a coquettish third movement, and a lively fourth movement. The only female member of the "Gang of Six," Tailleferre's Ballade is also a rare work. It is a mysterious piece that begins with a beautiful piano arpeggio. Nadia Boulanger, a well-known educator, also composed music in the early years of her career, but after Lili's premature death in 1918, she realized that she could not match her sister Lili's talent, so she did not compose anything at all.
