Up-and-coming quartet studied in Vienna! Debut disc "Dedicated to Emilie"! Emilie Meyer (1821-1883) was one of the most prolific female composers of the 19th century and a central figure in German instrumental music. Her works are of extraordinary confidence and originality, rooted in the Classical and Romantic traditions but with an innovative twist. The String Quartets in F major and G major recorded here are enlivened by clear thematic contrasts, bold modulations, and subtly ironic Beethoven-inspired scherzos that bring these works to life, culminating in a brilliant final movement in rondo form. This album sheds new light on Emilie Meyer, who has built her reputation independently of her famous male relatives, and aims to return her to her rightful place as a pioneer of Romantic music. The AMAI (Association for Music and Artistic Interaction) Quartet, in which Murasaki Fukuda, a violinist from Hyogo Prefecture, plays first violin, was formed in 2020 by musicians from the Vienna State University of Music (MDW). They have actively featured works by past and present female composers such as Fanny Hensel (Mendelssohn) and Amy Beach, as well as Emilie Meyer. The AMAI Association, founded in 2023, grew out of the Quartet's innovative work and is developing projects that take classical music beyond the concert hall and integrate it with other arts, making it accessible to all, rather than a "luxury item.
