B. Marcello played by Galligioni! Complete cello sonatas including newly discovered works! Benedetto Marcello, a Venetian aristocrat and lawyer, was also a renowned musician, and his "Cello Sonatas, Op.1" published in 1732, is a masterpiece of Baroque emotion and elegance in an aristocratic balance. The eloquent slow movement, glorious allegro, and singing melodic lines convey the Venetian spirit of the time to our time. Noteworthy is the inclusion of an unfinished sonata discovered in a manuscript in the Chapel of Marciana in Venice. Galliglioni has either filled in the missing parts (the second movement) or adapted them from the flute sonata (Op.2-6) (the third and fourth movements) and reconstructed them in a scholarly manner, making this a valuable source that has been revived after a lapse of almost three centuries. In addition to the harpsichord, a "second cello" is used as a bass continuo to reproduce the salon sounds of the time. The ensemble goes beyond mere accompaniment to create a mellow and warm ensemble that interacts with the soloist. Francesco Galligioni studied at the C. Pollini Conservatory in Padua and also specialized in baroque cello and viola da gamba. He is also a founding member of the Venice Baroque Orchestra. Together with Rolando Moro, who has also participated in the Venice Baroque Orchestra, and Roberto Lorejan, known for his recording of the complete keyboard works of Frescobaldi, he is reviving the sounds of 18th century Venice by using historical instruments.
