Piano works by Joachim Raff! Joachim Raff was a leading 19th century Swiss-German composer who was admired by Mendelssohn and Liszt during his lifetime. Combining the classical traditions of Beethoven and Mendelssohn with the innovative directions of Liszt and Wagner, his music blends formal clarity and poetic expression. For a time forgotten in the zeitgeist, this album sheds new light on some of the most distinctive piano works of his prolific creative career. These works are poetic self-portraits that paint a multifaceted picture of Ruff, shaped from transparent cantabile (singing melody), gently enveloping harmony, and a rich imagination restrained by form. Italian pianist Allegra Ciancio studied piano at the Vincenzo Bellini Conservatory in Catania, followed by a master's degree in music education at the Conservatorio della Musica Italiana in Switzerland, an advanced diploma in performance and interpretation (Master of Advanced Studies), and now a master's degree in performance at the highest level He is currently enrolled in the Master of Arts in Music Performance program, where he is continuing his studies at the highest level of performance.He has won first prizes in numerous piano competitions and was awarded the Special Prize for Best Performance of a Chopin Work at the 2022 Arona International Piano Competition. In this debut recording, he communicates a musical voice that is unmistakably his own, refined, luminous, and warmly welcoming to the listener, even as he dialogues with Mendelssohn and Liszt.
