Erard was known as an innovator of harp and piano, and his instruments were loved by Liszt, Ravel, Saint-Saens, and others. The instruments used in this concert are a Louis XVI style Erard harp from 1908 and an Erard grand piano from 1898. The program includes Liszt's "The Wedding," inspired by Raphael's painting "The Wedding of the Virgin," the magnificent duet by Welsh harpist John Thomas (1826-1913), whose recordings have been increasing in recent years, and the technical "Fantastic Pieces" by French cellist Paul Bazelaire (1886-1958), recorded for the first time in the world, The program includes a prelude by Georges Migaud (1891-1976), influenced by French Baroque music, and a "Theme and Variations" by Turina that captures the essence of Spanish music.
