The "Concerto Spirituare" and "Soliloquio - Preghiera" for solo cello by cellist Giuseppe Celmi, who was interned in the same camp as Giovanni Guareschi during World War II and later served as principal cellist of the RAI Symphony Orchestra in Rome was composed during his incarceration.Composer Arturo Coppola was inspired by his friendship with Sermi, which he nurtured in the camps, and composed "Elegia" for cello and piano and dedicated it to Sermi. Osvaldo Pirani is a Jewish cellist who studied cello at the Pesaro Conservatory and then taught at the string school in Foggia. This album contains all of Pirani's surviving works and sheds light on a talent that has been hidden in the shadows of history. The album opens with "Concerto Spirituare," a reissue from the original LP of a historic recording in which Selmi himself played solo. This highly significant album was realized with the cooperation of Sermi, Pirani's pupils, and Coppola's son. *Recording: 2023, Italy (Tokyo M-Plus)
