Includes Piano Sonata No. 8 Performed by Massimiliano Damellini (Piano) Piano Sonata No. 8 by Carlo Alessandro Landini, who studied under Olivier Messiaen at the Conservatoire de Milano and then at the Conservatoire de Paris. Landini is a man of many talents, active not only in music but also in the worlds of the plastic arts and literature. In the field of composition, he won first prize at the 2007 Lutoslawski Competition in Warsaw. The Piano Sonata No. 5, one of Landini's most famous works, has a total playing time of more than 150 minutes, and the No. 8 recorded here is a large-scale work of broad conception, inspired by the great masterpieces of the past and a work that recreates ancient musical forms and genres (dances like the Gaillarde, counterpoint-like forms like the Ricercaré The sonata is a large-scale, broadly conceived work that recreates ancient forms and genres (such as Gaillard-like dances and ricercare-like counterpoint forms) while reinterpreting them in novel ways. This album is also a valuable recording in that it preserves the last concert of the great Italian pianist Massimiliano Damelini, who died shortly after premiering this sonata.
