In 18th century London, opera-going was an important part of aristocratic social life, especially during the opera season when the upper classes of London visited the theater several times a week. However, the lack of recording technology at the time presented a challenge to music lovers who wanted to enjoy their favorite arias. Publishers seized the opportunity and published a number of scores arranged into smaller scores suitable for home music-making, allowing opera lovers to recreate the charm of the melody in the privacy of their own homes. John Walsh's Sonata or Chamber Music Collection, a collection of well-known songs and arias from Handel's operas, is a classic example of this trend. formed by four musicians during the 2020 lockdown, the Forss Consonance aims to elevate the status of historical arrangements as a serious musical activity and to elevate its status. The program on this album consists of works from various Handel operas, including lamentations, love duets, arias of vengeance, and other traditional scenes from 18th-century opera seria.
