The Kiaroscuro Quartet, led by one of the best violinists of our time, Alina Ibragimova, performs Beethoven's third Beethoven cycle, No. 10 "Harp" and No. 13! Formed in 2005, the quartet (the name "Chiaroscuro" means "contrasting light and dark," and "shadow" means "shading") has been known for its deep interpretation of Beethoven's music since its inception. The quartet has been active in recording as well as performing, and all of the discs they have released to date have been highly acclaimed. Following the six quartets of Op. 18, the Chiaroscuro Quartet has recorded two masterpieces from Beethoven's middle and late period. No. 10 in E-flat major, nicknamed "Harp" because of the distinctive pizzicato of its first movement, has been well received since its premiere and has been one of the most popular string quartets since its first publication in 1810. No. 13 in B-flat major was composed between 1824 and 1826, and belongs to the so-called "late quartets.The six-movement work is modeled after 18th-century variations, with two additional movements (Alla Danza Tedesca (in the style of a German dance) and Cavatina) added to the traditional four-movement structure.
