Description:

A remarkable violin concerto performed by Tan Dun's most trusted violinist, Erbjörg Hemsing! SACD hybrid disc. Norwegian star Elbjörg Hemsing, who has been gaining attention with the release of Shostakovich & Borgström Violin Concerto (BISSA2366), Dvořák Violin Concerto, Suk Fantasy and Love Song (BISSA2246) from the BIS label, is back with his third release, the highly anticipated Chinese composer Tan Dun's Violin Concerto. The highly anticipated third release is a violin concerto by Tan Dun, one of China's most famous composers. Born into a musical family with a mother, an older sister (Ragnhild Hemsing, released on the 2L label), and a younger brother who is a violinist, Erbjerg made his debut at the age of 11 with the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. He studied under Boris Kushnir, who is known for having trained Julian Rachlin and Nikolai Snyder. With his elegant tone and large scale performance, Hemsing is attracting attention as one of the most promising violinists of the moment, and is actively performing mainly in Europe. Hemming first met Tan Dun in 2010.The two musicians immediately hit it off when they performed together at the Shanghai International Expo, and have performed together frequently since then. The two-part violin concerto "Rhapsody and Fantasia" was premiered in 2009 by the Juilliard Orchestra with Cho Liang Lin as soloist. The first movement, "Rock the Violin in Rhapsody," is a hip-hop-malinconia-hip-hop piece with a powerful and intense impact. The second movement, "Dream of Peking Opera," is a dolce molto - andante - adagio - allegro, and as the title suggests, it is based on a melody from the Peking Opera, and its flowing melody is impressive. Meanwhile, the violin concerto "Ceremony of Fire" was premiered in September 2018 with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. It is composed in five parts: moderato - andante - moderato - moderato - moderato - moderato. Written as a tribute to those who died innocently in the war, this work is strongly felt by the composer and performers, and is a full-bodied work with a heartbreaking cry and a strong soul that tries to live. The sound is arranged with great attention to detail, including having some of the wind instruments played off-stage. Both works are notable for the shamanistic and spiritual world of composer Tan Dun, who incorporates many elements of Peking Opera in his compositions. King International
