The performance is another masterpiece of Vänskä's meticulous composition and attention to detail. The delicate and careful music making is appealing. The recording is also noteworthy. Vänskä, who has made numerous recordings for the BIS label, has reached the highest level of performance in this series of Mahler symphonies. So far, the series includes No. 1 "Titan" (KKC 6034 / BIS SA 2346), No. 2 "Resurrection" (KKC 5995 / BIS SA 2296), No. 4 (KKC 6131 / BIS SA 2356), No. 5 (KKC 5831 / BIS SA 2226) and No. 6 (KKC 5994 / BIS SA 2266). The following are released.In 2003, Vänskä was appointed music director of the Minnesota Orchestra, where he built a reputation for his complete Beethoven symphonies and other works. However, labor-management conflicts at the orchestra intensified due to deteriorating management, and in October 2012, the management decided to lock out the orchestra. The entire 2012/2013 season was cancelled, and the very survival of the company was in jeopardy. Vänskä returned to the position of principal conductor in January 2014 after the labor-management agreement was finalized, and since then, the Minnesota Orchestra's performances have become even denser and more cohesive.
