This time, with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, he presents a collection of Copland's ballets and orchestral works, which have established a distinctly American style. Once again, Litton's orchestration has a clear vision, creating a very gorgeous sound. Billy the Kid" is a ballet that deals with the turbulent life of Billy, a western outlaw, up to his untimely death in Mexico. Rodeo" is a ballet about cowboy rodeo competitions in the West, with a dynamic orchestration reminiscent of western movies. El Salón Mexico" is the name of a dance hall in Mexico City. Copland composed this piece using a Mexican folk melody based on his impression of the place when he visited there in 1932.The "Overture Outside the Door" was composed in 1938 for a concert at the School of Music and Art.
