This is the definitive recording! The 150th anniversary of Sibelius's birth is celebrated with the release of the complete Sibelius symphonies by Okko Kamm and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra! The Lahti Symphony Orchestra made its first visit to Japan in 1999 and made a name for itself in Japan with a very successful concert of the complete Sibelius symphonies at the Sumida Triphony. This recording was made with the orchestra's Artistic Director and Chief Conductor since 2011, Okko Kamm, at their home Sibelius Hall from 2012 to 2014, and is being released during this anniversary year.Performances on this program will continue in 2015, beginning with the International Sibelius Music Festival in September, followed by a much-anticipated tour of Japan in November 2015. As concertmaster of the Finnish National Opera Orchestra, Kamm won first prize at the first Karajan Competition in 1969. As a former string player, Kamm's clear string beauty and disciplined orchestration are nothing short of superb, and his interpretation of Sibelius, a composer from his native Finland, is especially superb.
