Prayers and fervent shouts from all of us at BCJ to the victims in Tohoku "The CD published here was made with a special intention: to share our thoughts and feelings about the March 11, 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and accompanying tsunami, which had an unprecedented impact on everyone in Japan, not only on the people directly affected by the disaster, but also on the entire nation of Japan. It is no exaggeration to say that the Great East Japan Earthquake and the ensuing tsunami have had an unprecedented impact on all of us in Japan. (omission) In the midst of all this, we have come to realize that the music of J.S. Bach offers great comfort and encouragement, not only in the 18th century, but also in the 21st century. So now, in mourning for the countless victims of the earthquake and tsunami, we have created this CD with the hope that we can be close to those who have suffered great loss, that we can help heal their emotional wounds, and that we can give them the vitality to carry on this country to the next generation. We hope that this CD will help to heal the wounds of those who have suffered great loss.The program was composed with the following key words: the fragile human figure on the verge of death and in fear, hope for heaven, comfort and consolation of the soul, prayer and meditation that continues undeterred by hardship, the fulfillment of divine providence and the desire for Jesus Christ, and finally, the motet BWV 229, which encompasses all of these concepts. (Masaaki Suzuki) This CD was organized by Masaaki Suzuki and the Bach Collegium Japan as part of the BCJ Disaster Relief Project (from April 2011) for the victims of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The purpose of the project is to send a cheer to the victims of the disaster through Bach's music and wonderful performances, and at the same time to donate the royalty income from the CDs to the victims. The majority of the songs are numbers from previously released cantatas, with a full lineup of old favorites such as Miichi Yoneira and Mia Persson.Also, Masaaki Suzuki recorded three organ chorales for this album in November 2011 using the organ of Kobe Shoin Women's University Chapel, and they are also a must-hear. It is a moving masterpiece that conveys the passion of Masaaki Suzuki. King International
