Dorangle and Lindberg: A Dream Collaboration An album sure to thrill wind instrument enthusiasts. It brings together six wind ensemble works spanning 80 years, from Milhaud’s 1923 composition to Emerson’s 2006 piece. Four of these are concertos for saxophone and wind ensemble, featuring a dream collaboration between Claude Drangul—one of today’s foremost virtuosos—as soloist and trombone prodigy Christian Lindberg as conductor. The saxophone is, of course, a key instrument in jazz. Here, too, Drangle brings pieces with a strong jazz flavor to life with astonishing skill—including John Williams’ film score for *Catch Me If You Can*, inspired by 1960s free jazz, and Milhaud’s *The Creation of the World*, inspired by the music he heard in Harlem, New York, in the 1920s. Dangl recreates these pieces—which have a strong jazz flavor—with astonishing skill. Additionally, for this recording, Roger Butori himself arranged his 1961 “Divertimento”—originally written for string orchestra—for wind ensemble.
