Deep, mellow and superb groove masterpiece! This is the first reissue of Ronald Snijders 1980 masterpiece "A Safe Return", which was featured on the popular "Surinam Funk Force" compilation released on the Dutch label Rush Hour and on a deep groove compilation by DJ Keb Beadle, an originator of the UK jazz dance scene. Safe Return" is finally reissued for the first time. The opening track "Lenox" has a deep bass sound with a firm rhythm and a dopey atmosphere from the flanger and flute. The following track, "Surinam Lady", changes the dopey atmosphere to an AOR-style mellow groove with fresh gut guitar and flute that is full of songfulness, and the third track, "Kaseko Attack", has indigenous drums and a mellow electric piano that gives the song a somewhat Brazilian groove. The third track, "Kaseko Attack," has a Brazilian groove with indigenous drums and a mellow electric piano (the inclusion of an insect's voice inserted discreetly along with the rhythm is also a high point!) This is an up-tempo number. The fourth track, "Sisa," is a combination of spiritual jazz and rare groove (the deep reverb of the bells is the best part...), and "Tukayana" has a black groove like the soundtrack to a black movie. The funky bass line and upper drums of "Djamba" and the melodious development of "Djamba" are heavenly... and the album closes with "A Safe Return," a peaceful, ethereal song that cools down all the heat.It is also interesting to note that this album was performed by Ronald Snijders alone, so it is one that seems to ooze with his groove and ideas. This is a masterpiece full of deep, mellow, and superb grooves, and it is easy to see why it is loved by top diggers.
