Description:
In Roman mythology, "Janus" had two faces facing opposite directions, presiding over gates and doorways, and was also the god of ends and beginnings. One looks to the future, the other to the past. Bergen-based composer Knut Voge named this deity in the title of his album, which represents more than 40 years of collaboration with Bergen Philharmonic flutist Ingela Oien. The title piece, "Janus," was written as a concerto for soloist and orchestra, with the soloist switching between C flute, alto flute, and bass flute. It is a work of soundscapes with jazzy rhythms and impulses as well. Tapt slag (Losing the strife)" is based on a poem by Hanne Bramness. Medusa" and "Far eg likna deg (If I were to liken you)," both named after monsters from Greek mythology, are solo flute pieces. Electra II," a Greek tragedy, was created for "amplified" flute and electronics, with sound design by Torolf Teuesta of "multiMORF" (LWC 1345). Tokyo M-Plus
