Trio Brax is an ensemble formed in 2015 based in Tromsø, northern Norway. The ensemble features Germany's Julia Neher (b.1983), who studied with Wolfram Christ in Freiburg and Antoine Tamesti in Cologne and is principal viola player of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra; Aura Asdal Rokknes (b.1983), a saxophonist in both the classical and jazz fields and the author of "The Norwegian Saxophone" ( LWC1162), and Sergei Osadchuk (b.1957), a Russian-born professor at the Academy of Music at the University of Tromsø, collaborate with contemporary Norwegian composers to develop "new sounds and musical landscapes The trio has been working to develop "new sounds and musical landscapes" in collaboration with contemporary Norwegian composers. This is their debut album as a trio. Shel Habbestad's "Three Kinds of Flowers" is based on poems chosen by the members based on their nationalities: Pushkin's "The Prophet" is from Russia, Nietzsche's "The Sun Sets" from Germany, and Andre Bjerke's "The Singing Land" from Norway.Håvard Lunn's "The Magpie and I" was inspired by an unpleasant encounter with a flock of birds as a starting point, while Helge Eberg's "Going Out to Thieve Horses" was inspired by the title of a famous novel by Per Pettechon. Hindemith's "Trio for Viola, Heckelphone (or Tenor Saxophone), and Piano" is one of several pieces he wrote for various instrumental combinations. Tokyo M-Plus
