Description:

Swan Songs" and "Schubert Songs" by two Norwegian musicians full of reverence for Schubert are credited to Johann Michael Fogle of Vienna as the first singer to sing them. But there was another first performer. Schubert himself. What was Schubert's voice like? Was it strong, coarse, pleasant to the ear, or soft? We can only guess. ......" (from the booklet of the composer Ivin Buehne PSC 1381). The collection of songs entitled "Schwanengesang" was published in Vienna in 1829, the year after Schubert's death, by Tobias Haslinger, who was also a musician. The works included are seven songs on poems by Ludwig Lerstarp (D. 957 nos. 1-7), six songs on poems by Heilinrich Heine (D. 957 nos. 6-13), and "The Dove's Messenger" (D. 965a), composed on a poem by Seidl. All were written in 1828, the year of Schubert's death.Frank Havroy (1969-) is a baritone singer and composer in the Oslo vocal group Nordic Voices. Gunnar Flagstad, a chamber music pianist who has worked with almost all of Norway's leading musicians, says that the recording of "Swan Song" by Frankagunnar started with the idea of "Werketreue" (fidelity to the work). The recording of "Swan Song" by Frankagunnar started with the concept of "Werketreue," which means "faithfulness to the work. He did not sing the score by paying attention to every detail, but by making the songs sound "true," faithfully reproducing the composer's intentions. If "Swan Song" were an architectural structure, Harvroy and Fragstad's project would not be a meticulous restoration or reconstruction, but a transformation of the building" (Buehne). Recording sessions were held in a studio in Oslo, with associate professors from the University of Oslo and the Norwegian National College of Music serving as German and pronunciation consultants.I wonder if Franz Schubert would have liked it. ...... Every musician is free to imagine this music without having Uncle Franz shrug his shoulders. More than 200 years have passed since Schubert died. But this music is still going strong."(Buehne).
