Description:
A new album from one of the best female vocalists of our time, Cyril Aimée, is already available! Her previous album, Live, documented a concert performance at Poisson Rouge, New York, in August 2017. With that performance, Cyril announced that he was ending his activities with the members he had spent several years with and moving his base of operations from Brooklyn to New Orleans. This work is her first album, and it is the most fulfilling one she has ever made. Born to a French father and a Dominican mother, she got her start with street performances on street corners. Cyril's sound at the time of his debut, which originated from a place where Manouche's tent stood, had a swinging vocal appeal with a big guitar sound. The band's musical range has been broadened and their sense of music has improved, even naturally. This album is about Stephen Sondheim. Cyril's definitive encounter with Sondheim's world came in 2013. Cyril says that at a concert backed by Wynton Marsalis and the Lincoln Center Orchestra, she received rave reviews from Sondheim himself. She had not been that close to Sondheim's world before that experience, but it seems to have opened a new door in her life.Cyril's departure for New Orleans was not without its personal reasons, but she says that Sondheim's songs helped her through a difficult time. This work is more than just a "Sondheim Songbook"; it is also something that is deeply rooted in Cyril himself. The opening track is her own a cappella piece. The second song was a fun song that evoked the brass sounds and rhythms of New Orleans, where she had emigrated. On the other hand, the second song was a fun song with the brass sounds and rhythms of New Orleans, where the singer moved to. Of course, there is also a manouche-like approach, with the participation of her friend Adrienne (M7), and a fun-filled number featuring salsa rhythms (M6)......but the fact that all these tastes are incorporated to create a single world is what shows her sure expression above all. The arrangement of the music and the storyline With a good sense of musical arrangement and a narrative structure, the ideal relationship between Cyril and Sondheim is established in this work. This is a new journey and a masterpiece. We will be keeping an eye on Cyril more and more for this singing and entertainment without elbows and neutrals!
