Legendary 20th century French clarinetist. Henri Drouard's Brahms is back! A reissue of a treasured recording from a long-established French label that is a must have for all clarinetists! The legendary Henri Drouard, the father of the French clarinet tradition, left behind a quintet and two sonatas by Brahms in the 1970s. After winning the first prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1947, he went on to play with the Orchestre des Concerts Lamoureux, the Orchestre de la Musique de Paris, the Orchestre de l'Opéra-Comique, and the Orchestre de la Garde-Republique de Paris (wind band), before becoming the first principal clarinet of the Orchestre de Paris, which he founded in 1967. Until his retirement in 1981, he performed with world-famous musicians such as Munch, Karajan, and Prêtre, and was friends with Henri Dutilleux and Francine Aubin, making him a truly French legend. His "Quintet" with the string quartet of the Orchestre de Paris and his two sonatas with Annie Darko are both superb. Remastered by engineer Simon Lancelot of the Studio Ferbert in Paris, France, these historical masterpieces by Drouard have been brought back to life in the 21st century. Tokyo M-Plus
