Centered around Britten's masterpiece "Winter Words," this collection of British songs weaves together songs by Imogen Holst and Daniel Kidane, as well as Britten's skillful arrangements of folk songs. Inspired by William Blake's worldview, the composition is a song tour of various landscapes, and is the result of years of collaboration between the two artists who met at the Royal College of Music. The album also includes the world premiere recording of Imogen Holst's little-known masterpiece, "Songs of Illumination," a new work by Kidane, and is an album that conveys the full range of the appeal of English-language songs. Nick Prichard is a tenor widely acclaimed for his interpretation of J.S. Bach's music, especially the role of the Evangelist in the Passion. Described by The Guardian as "the Evangelist par excellence," his recording of the John Passion with Elliott Gardiner for Deutsche Grammophon received international acclaim and a Grammy nomination in the category of Best Choral Performance.
