King's Singers! A new series of music for quieting the mind! The King's Singers, a legendary male a capella group celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2018, boasts a repertoire of over 2,000 songs ranging from Renaissance polyphony to jazz and pop. The new series "Head Space," themed "music to quiet the mind," is now underway with new members. The first collection, "Candlelight," is based on the motif of the evening prayer "Compline" and includes 14 works by Gregorian chant, Orlando Gibbons, contemporary composer Anna Solvaldsdottir, and Arvo Pärt. One of the highlights of the program is the recording of John Cage's "4 Minutes 33 Seconds.This experimental work, known as "music without performance," was probably the first attempt in the world to record it as a male a capella group. In the silence of the church, where only the candlelight flickers, their "silent performance" resonates as a new form of prayer that looks at the boundary between sound and silence.
