The previous release (SIGCD559), which included three of Shostakovich's string quartets, "No. 1," "No. 2," and "No. 7," received a four-star rating from BBC Music Magazine, which described the performance as "beautifully honed" and the recording as "four-star. The album includes "No. 9," dedicated to Shostakovich's wife, Irina, and "No. 15," his last string quartet, written the year before his death.In 2015, to mark the 40th anniversary of the composer's death, Washington, DC; London; Oxford; Cardiff, The quartet will be performed by a group of talented musicians who have successfully performed Shostakovich's complete string quartets in Washington, DC, London, Oxford, Cardiff, Bogota (Spain), and elsewhere in 2015 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the composer's death.
