La Serenissima's collection of Vivaldi's works for the Pietà Institute! A collection of works by the red-haired priest Vivaldi for the female players of the Academy of Pietà! Includes world premiere recordings and rare concertos for ancient instruments! A rare collection of works for female players and singers of the Pietà Institute, where Vivaldi was a teacher. The Instituto Pietà was a charitable institution that brought up orphans and other children who were unable to live with their parents for any reason, and concerts at the conservatory were a valuable source of income for its upkeep. This album contains works composed by Vivaldi for the players of the conservatory, especially the F-major Violin Concerto, which is a world premiere recording. The album also includes a concerto for viola d'amore designed by Stradivarius, and a concerto for tromba marina style violin invented by Vivaldi himself, which are rare nowadays. La Serenissima is a period ensemble founded in 1994 by Adrian Chandler, one of the best baroque violinists in England.The orchestra has won two Gramophone Awards for a series of world premiere recordings of unknown and rediscovered works by composers in and around 18th century Venice, led by Vivaldi, the red-haired priest.
