Peter Donohoe's Signum Vol. 3 "Pictures at an Exhibition" with Ravel & Messiaen! Peter Donohoe is a renowned British pianist who has been invited by Simon Rattle as a soloist for his inaugural concert as Music Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, and has also performed with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions. A percussionist in his youth, Donohoe studied piano in Paris with Yvonne Loriot and Olivier Messiaen, and won a prize at the 1981 Leeds International Competition and the highest prize at the 1982 Tchaikovsky International Competition. Donohoe has shown his ability as one of the world's top pianists with his two Shostakovich albums, "24 Preludes and Fugues, Op.87" (SIGCD 396) and "Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2 and Piano Sonatas Nos. 1 & 2" (SIGCD 493), and now he presents the third volume of SignumClassics. This is a great program that connects the works of Ravel and Messiaen with Mussorgsky's masterpiece "Pictures at an Exhibition," one of the pinnacles of 19th century pianism. Tokyo M-Plus
