This album marks Vukosavljević’s third release and was born out of a close collaboration with the renowned Portuguese pianist Joana Gama. Underlying the work is the melodic beauty of Orthodox chants from the composer’s homeland of Serbia, along with the improvisational nature of their performance. Through the piano—an instrument inherently harmonic—he reconstructs the unique world of chants, where drones and melodies intertwine horizontally. Furthermore, the composer draws inspiration from the sermons of the medieval German mystic Meister Eckhart and his own spiritual awakening as a father. Joana Gama is a pianist who has earned international acclaim for her performances of Satie and other works.
