Description:
Schumann's complete symphonies by Schonwandt with the particularity No. 4 adopts the first draft and Zwickau symphony is also included. No. 4 is based on the first draft of 1841. In the second movement of the first draft, Schumann originally intended to introduce the guitar as an accompanying instrument (although he soon abandoned the idea). Some of the tempo indications are clearly different from the revised version generally performed today, and it may be one of the pleasures of listening to the music while appreciating such differences. The G minor symphony, which also bears the name of Schumann's birthplace, Zwickau, was written in 1832, when Schumann was in his early 20s. He stopped studying law and devoted himself to music, aspiring to become a virtuoso pianist, but gave up due to a broken hand. He studied the works of Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, and began composing on the piano.Schumann's talent was recognized here and there, but it was still inadequate, and perhaps Schumann himself was aware of this, and although the symphony was performed several times in Zwickau in 1833, it was ultimately unfinished. This performance is a breath of fresh air from the young Schumann. The program also includes an interesting orchestral arrangement of Schumann's only organ work, "Six Fugues on Bach's Name. The arranger is Henk de Freiherr. A percussionist, de Freiherr also made a splash with his orchestral arrangement of Wagner's Ring for orchestra, "Orchestral Adventure. It will be interesting to see how he cooked up Schumann's Double Fugue. Schonwandt was born in Copenhagen in 1953.He has also served as principal guest conductor of the Berlin Symphony Orchestra (principal conductor/1992-1998), the Théâtre de la Monnaie (principal guest conductor/1984-87), the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (principal guest conductor/1987-2000), the Royal Flemish Philharmonic Orchestra, and as of 2015, the Staatsoper Stuttgart As of 2015, he is Principal Guest Conductor of the Staatstheater Stuttgart. He has been active in the opera scene, among others, and has also conducted the Berlin Philharmonic, the Vienna Philharmonic, and the LSO in the Beethoven: Piano Concerto series with Brendel. He is also active in the opera scene, among others. King International
