Although this album was reissued in the late 1990s, it is a fitting album for the Reger Year (100 years after his death). Reger arranged many of the great Bach's works in various forms, and the Brandenburg Concerto and the Orchestral Suites are all available in four-hand piano versions. While both are faithful to the original works, they are extremely difficult to play because they distribute Bach's distinctive polyphonic twists to the four hands. However, they are written to astonishing effect if they can be reproduced exactly as Reger wrote them. Reger is so faithful to the spirit of Bach that it is hard to imagine what Bach himself would have done with the piano four-hand arrangement. The Brandenburg Concertos Nos. 2 and 6 are featured here, as well as the popular Orchestral Suite No. 3. The arrangement of the "Aria" from Orchestral Suite No. 3 is stylish, dignified, and graceful. What is even more exciting is the inclusion of a joint version of "Toccata and Fugue," one of the most famous organ pieces of all time. The organ grandeur of this piece, which cannot be achieved in a solo piano arrangement, will leave you speechless. Leo van Dusselaar is a veteran organ professor at the Berlin Higher School of Music.Together with Winnecke Jordans, they have been partners since their graduation from the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam in 1981, when they played a piano duo together.
