Jazz master Charles Mingus celebrated his 100th anniversary last year. Not only known as one of the greatest jazz musicians/composers of all time, but also a giant of jazz bass, he is the most important American jazz composer after Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn.As part of Mingus' 100th birthday celebration, a new box set, CHANGES: THE COMPLETE 1970S ATLANTIC RECORDINGS" will be released. This collection. CHANGES: THE COMPLETE 1970s ATLANTIC RECORDINGS" features the latest remastered recordings of the last seven studio albums Mingus recorded for Atlantic Records between 1973 and his death in 1979, plus previously unreleased It will be released in two formats: a 7-CD box set and an 8-CD analog box set.The works compiled here include "MINGUS MOVES" from 1973, "CHANGES ONE" and "CHANGES TWO" from 1974, "THREE OR FOUR SHADES OF BLUES" and "CUMBIA & JAZZ FUSION" from 1977, and The seven studio albums are "ME, MYSELF AN EYE" and "SOMETHING LIKE A BIRD" from 1979, which were recorded before he sadly passed away in January 1979. The analog box contains seven outtakes from that period, including five previously unreleased tracks, and the CD box contains three additional previously unreleased outtakes. In addition to the recordings, this release also includes an illustrated booklet that delves deeply into Mingus' later years, with extensive liner notes by musician/arranger/jazz researcher Andrew Homzy.
