A reissue of the classic album by Rodriguez, the singer/songwriter portrayed in the documentary film "Sugarman: The Man Loved by Miracles," which won the 2012 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature Film, is now available! Cold Fact is the debut album by singer/songwriter Rodriguez. Originally released on the Sussex label in the U.S. in March 1970, it was released on A&M in South Africa in 1971, and in Australia in 1976, where it reached #23 on the National Albums Chart and spent 55 weeks on the chart. In 1998, it was certified as a platinum album in South Africa and a 5X platinum album in Australia. Despite his success in both countries, Rodriguez's near-unknown status in his native United States led to a reappraisal of his music in 2008/9 with a reissue by Light in the Attic Records and an Academy Award winning Best Documentary Feature in 2012, The documentary film "Sugarman: The Man Loved by Miracles," which featured Rodriguez.The film, which follows the anecdote of how Rodriguez's song, which ended up being unknown in the United States, exploded as a symbolic anti-apartheid song in South Africa in the late 1970s, has brought his work back into the spotlight.
