Description:
This is Mantler's first album back with Xtrawatt, almost 20 years after her last album with Xtrawatt, "Farewell". For a while she was a member of Virgin and released "Pet Project", and then she started working with her parents Michael Mantler ("The School of Understanding") and Carla Bley ("The Carla Bley Big Band Goes To Church", "Looking for America", "Apprentice", "The Carla Bley Big Band"). He is also a member of Golden Palaminos and has participated in various projects such as the Robert Wyatt Tribute Band and tributes to Disney and Nino Rota. He has also gained experience playing accordion on street corners, giving private harmonica lessons, and working part-time at a cafe in Soho.These struggles to keep her own projects afloat seem to have reinforced her uniquely whimsical songwriting sensibility. Mantler's songs of gore are plaintive and easygoing, which again adds to the charm of the album. The trio features Doug Wieselman, a guitarist active in Anthony and the Johnsons, Lounge Lizards, and Kamikaze Ground Crew fame, and Kato Hideki, a Japanese bassist known for his work with the Death Ambient trio and John Zorn's projects.
