2011 marks the 40th anniversary of Keith Jarrett becoming an ECM artist! This is a 2-CD set of his solo live performance in Brazil in April of the same year. Keith had only performed in Brazil once before, in the 1980s, and had always felt that the show was "unfinished. Like the much-loved masterpiece "Cologne Concert", this is a very lyrical work, all improvised. The live performance in Rio was one of the best, as the music seemed to come to him one after another, and Keith himself was convinced that it was one of the best. I had no idea what this concert was going to mean, but we did the best we could. Everything I played here was improvised, but this concert was unforgettable. In another country, in another hall, with another audience, on another date, this work would not have been possible. It was a beautifully structured, jazzy, serious, sometimes sweet, sometimes passionate, energetic, warm, playful, no-nonsense, well-made piece that connected with Brazilian culture in a unique way.The sound in this hall was perfect, and the audience was enthusiastic and moved. This is a masterpiece, befitting of the 40th anniversary of Facing You, his first solo piano masterpiece for ECM.
