Live recording of funky Hammond B3 organist Jimmy Smith at Smalls' Paradise, NY, November 17, 1957. Francis Wolfe, one of the founders of Blue Note, wrote, "I first heard Jimmy Smith at Smalls' Paradise in 1956. It was his first performance in New York. It was amazing. His face twitching and contorted, his fingers were flying and his feet were dancing on the pedals as he cringed in pain. The air was filled with waves of sound never heard before." He recalls. Between 1956 and 1957, Blue Note recorded the trio 14 times, and this is a live recording of the trio performing three standards, a tribute to Monk, and other masterpieces.
