In 1968, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was shot and the nation was rocked by racism, Monk, the greatest jazz genius in history, responded to a high school student's wish. Unreleased live recordings of his soul! Thelonious Monk is known as the greatest jazz genius of all time for his unique and one-of-a-kind performance style and for composing numerous masterpieces that still fascinate music fans around the world. The previously unreleased live recordings from the late 1960s, when he was at the height of his maturity, have been unearthed and released on the prestigious Impulse label, which celebrates its 60th anniversary this year! Although previously unreleased live recordings of Monk have been released in the past, the major difference is that this album was recorded at an ordinary high school in Palo Alto, California. In October 1968, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated and the nation was rocked by racial discrimination, Monk performed a concert on campus in response to a high school boy's wish to unite people through jazz, and the entire recording is included. He led the regular quartet of the time in a passionate performance of "Blue Monk," "Epistrophe," and other signature tunes.More than half a century after the concert, massive protests against discrimination against blacks are still taking place across the United States, and with the world's attention focused on these developments, it is of great significance that this previously unreleased live recording is now being released. A replica of the poster and program of this concert are enclosed!
