Description:
A rare double-sided work by saxophonist Sonny Rollins, released on Verve Records in 1958, consisting of a full brass ensemble on one side and a minimal sax trio on the other. The first half features a performance by the Brass Ensemble and Rollins, arranged and conducted by Ernie Wilkins, recorded in New York City in July 1958, featuring trumpeter Harry "Sweet" Edison, trombonist J.J. Johnson and Jimmy Cleveland, tuba player Don Butterfield, and the rhythm section consisting of pianist Dick Katz, guitarist René Thomas, bassist Henry Grimes, and drummer Roy Haynes.Together, they united to color Rollins with a swinging, harmonically rich background on standards such as "Who Cares?" and "Love Is A Simple Thing." The second half was recorded a few days later in Los Angeles with bassist Henry Grimes and drummer Specs Wright.
