Description:
This is Minnesota guitarist Steve Tibbetts' 11th release for ECM. With this album, he resumes his exploration of his own affirmation, "Music is the language of twilight. And my job is to translate shadows into sound." With this album, he resumes his quest. The album slowly unfolds wistful, improvised melodies over overlapping loops, drones, and darkly roaring percussion. While tones of distorted electric guitar and shimmering 12-string acoustic guitar make this music the music of the West, its gradual, almost hypnotic development continues to suggest an affinity with the East. I still seek out the evocative sounds of Sultan Khan," says Tibbets. He said this of one of his main influences, the late Indian sarangi master. The striking cover image of an abandoned swing, lit by a field of twinkling stars, serves as a fascinating visual metaphor for the album's music.
