Folded Landscapes" is a full-length album about the climate crisis by a "nature" songwriter, and is a reflection of Arland Cooper's belief in climate change and the need to work together to take hopeful and proactive action against it. Starting with a cold glacier, it is a heartwarming journey to hope. The string ensemble performance, which begins in a baroque style and ends with a song-and-dance gathering, is combined with field recordings, samples, and vocals. Samples: Poetry reading by Simon Armitage (poet) / Speech by Greta Thunberg (environmental activist) / News report (hottest day in Europe) / Field recording of Norman Ackroyd (artist) reading the names of places he has painted in Oxfordshire. Glacial lake in Finland/ Ice in a bowl melting with salt/ Wild fires in California/ Glacier breaking Arland Cooper is a Scottish composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist from Stromness in the Orkney Islands. As a solo artist, Cooper has released eight critically acclaimed studio albums, including a trilogy of works inspired by Cooper's childhood home, nature, landscape, people, place, and time.Cooper's work combines outdoor field recordings with traditional orchestration and contemporary electronic material. He explores landscape, memory and identity through music, words and film. And these themes are further developed by partnering with artists, writers and poets.
