Description:
This RSD 12" features two of Ella's best-known songs, one found on a tape of a 1962 show in Berlin and the other on a tape of a 1960 show in Berlin. This series, called Original Grooves, uses a cutting technique called parallel grooves. Parallel Grooves means that instead of cutting tracks one after another, they are cut side-by-side, allowing the listener to enjoy different sounds depending on where the needle is dropped. This second in the series is by the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald. Ella regularly performed Bobby Darin and Louis Armstrong's popular "Mack the Knife" and George Gershwin's "Summertime," and on this release, the recently discovered 1962 live recording "Ella: The Lost Berlin Tapes" from which these two songs were taken. These two cuts are paired with the 1960 version from the Grammy-winning live album Ella in Berlin.
