He studied under Peter Eötvös and has been the Music Director of the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra in Alabama, USA since 2011, the Artistic Director of the International Almer Opera Competition & Festival since 2014, and the Music Director of the Portland Festival Symphony Orchestra since 2017. The "Barbie Blue" is a work by the Hungarian composer/conductor Gergely Vaidá, who has also been remarkably active as a conductor. Barbie Blue" was written to commemorate the 125th anniversary of Bartók's birth, and was intended as a "comic version" of his opera "Bluebeard's Castle. Composed for the same voices and the same size orchestra as Bartók's only opera, "Bluebeard's Castle," it references "Bluebeard's Castle" at the level of important structural points and basic musical processes, although it is hidden on the surface.
