Carillon works by contemporary Polish composers! Monika Kazimierczak, a carillon player from Gdansk, Poland! For centuries, the bell (carillon) has been an element of the Polish musical space, yet it remains an exotic instrument whose potential remains largely unrecognized. Monika Kazimierczak, an avid promoter of carillon culture in Poland, has used the historic carillon, which dates back to the 16th century, to present a series of works by leading 20th century Polish composers such as Zygmunt Krause, Pawel Mikietin, Aleksander Nowak, Agata Zubel, and Elżbieta Sikora. The program will explore the further possibilities of this profound instrument with music composed for the carillon in recent years by leading Polish composers of the 20th century, including Monika Kazimierczak studied music theory, choral conducting, and church music at the Academy of Music in Gdansk. She also completed the Holland Carillon School, began learning the carillon in 2000 in a course organized by the Historical Museum of the City of Gdansk, has been playing the Gdansk carillon since 2001, and officially became the city carillonist in 2018.He has won prizes at international carillon competitions in the Netherlands, including Almelo (2003, 1st prize), Fenloh (2004, 2nd prize), and Zwolle (2013, 3rd prize), and is president of the Polish Carillon Society and leader of the Gdańsk Civic Choir.
