Oleg Marushev, a pianist prodigy from Baku, Azerbaijan in the former Soviet Union, is a piano giant who has recorded more than 35 excellent albums for the Danacord label in Denmark, with whom he has a deep bond of trust, after turning down numerous offers from major labels. He is a giant of piano music.Finally, after eight years since the simultaneous 2014 releases of Mendelssohn (DACOCD 734-736) and Chopin (DACOCD 701-702), the long-awaited recordings are now available! The disc boasts a vast repertoire ranging from rare works such as the piano works of Emil von Sauer, Liszt's late great brother (6 volumes) and the piano concertos of unknown Danish composers (4 volumes) to the masterpieces of the Romantic era such as Brahms, Schubert, Liszt, Chopin, and Mendelssohn, Next, he has chosen Ravel's complete works for solo piano. The first volume is centered around Ravel's greatest piano work, "Mirror," a selection of his early "Grotesque Serenades" and "Old-fashioned Menuettes," as well as "Water Play," "Pavane for a Dying Princess," and other masterpieces.Ravel is also famous for his five failed attempts to win the Prix de Rome (first prize), which caused a stir in the musical circles of the time, and this album includes a rare recording of one of the fugues Ravel wrote for the Prix de Rome, the first time he recorded it on piano.
