Description:
A collection of works by Dutch-born Belgian composer Frederic Defrase. It contains six works: one brass band work, two brass quintet works, and three wind band works. Frederic Defrase was born in Amsterdam in 1929, the son of Gottfried Defrase, a leading Belgian composer and conductor. He studied composition with Marcel Port and conducting with René de Fosse in Brussels, composition with Ildebrando Pizzetti at the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia in Rome, and conducting with Hans Svalovsky at the Vienna State Academy. At the age of 19, he received the City of Ostend Prize for his "Piano Concerto No. 1" and various other composition awards, and his works have been selected for various music competitions. He has published works in a variety of genres, including symphonies, concertos, and ballet music, but he is especially known for his music for television and film. He is also active as a conductor.Three Waltzes for Symphonic Band" is a compilation of dances that have been presented for various orchestras, including string ensemble, chamber music, and solo piano, and then rearranged for wind band. The third movement, "Sacred Waltz," was composed as music for "HetSacrament" (not shown in Japan) directed by Hugo Krauss, which was also nominated in the "Un Certain Regard" category at the 43rd Cannes International Film Festival in 1990. Other pieces on this album include "Passage," which is characterized by its classical mood and speedy rhythm. This is a collection of DeFrase's works that you can enjoy to your heart's content. The name of the performer of "Mask" is shown as Desfort Colliery Caterpillar Band in the booklet and back inlay, but the correct name is Desford Colliery Caterpillar Band.
