Henschel's intelligent and powerful voice. Berezovsky's orchestral piano. A remarkable disc of songs based on the verses of Mahler's "The Child's Wonderful Hornblower"! The "Children's Wonderful Horn" is a German folk song collected by Brentano and others. Mahler composed a number of songs based on its lyrics (about half of all songs), which are collected discretely in the songbooks "Songs of a Young Man," "The Child's Magic Horn" and "The Last Seven Songs. Henschel recorded only the songs from "The Child's Magic Horn" in the hope of discovering a common dramaturgy underlying the songs, even though it is not clear whether Mahler intended his own songs from "The Child's Magic Horn" to have any unity. The lyrics of "The Child's Wonderful Horn" are simple at first glance, but behind them lies an eerie darkness (Mahler's music focuses on this darkness).Whether the poems are about battles, fairy tales, or love, they all have an element of happiness being inextricably linked to misfortune, and misfortune to befall. Berezovsky's deep and scenic piano, which swells like an orchestra, beautifully amplifies the world of the poems Henschel sings. King International
