Description:
Mutual Benefit, the Brooklyn, NY-based indie-folk project by Jordan Lee, has released a new album, Skip a Thinking Stone! debut album, Love's Cruising Diamonds, in December 2013. At the time of its release, the album was featured on Pitchfork and won "Best New Music" despite being a bandcamp, distribution-only release. This was the first time in Pitchfork's history that this had been accomplished, and it created a lot of buzz in various quarters. To date, Mutual Benefit's work has been praised for its fragile, delicate, and heartwarming music. This new album, released almost two years later, retains the same delicate sensitivity and expresses two things: hope and serenity. The first half of the album features an impressive arrangement of warm strings that seem to wash over the heart in a wave of hope, while the second half of the album is quieter, as if the listener is reflecting on himself or herself. With folky guitar sounds, this work offers a supreme sense of escape.
