Holodenko takes on Tchaikovsky! A new masterpiece in the difficult piano sonata! Vadim Kholodenko has been actively releasing Russian piano music on the Harmonia Mundi label. His latest release is a collection of Tchaikovsky's works. He has been working on this project for several years, and this recording is the culmination of his efforts. Tchaikovsky's "Piano Sonata in G major" shares the same work number as his masterpiece "The Four Seasons" and was composed in 1878. It was composed in 1878, around the same time that Tchaikovsky composed his Violin Concerto, after escaping from an unhappy marriage and recovering in Switzerland, where he was enjoying the company of his violinist partner, Kotek. Although it is a very long and difficult piece, in recent years Russian pianists have begun to record it, and a series of masterpieces have been produced. Tchaikovsky also has another piano sonata, and its appearance by Kholodenko is very welcome. It is also intriguing that the main part of the third movement scherzo is appropriated from the third movement of Symphony No. 1, "Fantasy on a Winter's Day." Kholodenko gives a full performance, making full use of the rich and clear tone of his famous instrument, the Fazioli.The fill-ups include the November "Troika," one of the most famous of the "Four Seasons," and the lesser-known "Romance. Romance" is the fifth piece in "Six Pieces, Op. 51. The sixth piece in the same collection is the masterpiece "Sentimental Waltz," which also offers the beautiful world of Tchaikovsky.
