Great harpsichord solo! Rousset's love for Lully shines through in this gem of an album. It is intriguing that this long-awaited new recording focuses on Lully's works, to which he has a special attachment. The Ebay seller's comment was "a collection of harpsichord pieces from the 18th century," but Rousset took one look at them and thought they were 17th century harpsichord pieces, Ruse took one look at it and saw that it was from the 17th century, and that it was a super treasure, and was able to acquire it. Of the approximately 80 pieces in the collection, 34 are arrangements for harpsichord of Lully's works, and since Lully did not leave many keyboard works, one can imagine Rousset's delight. The handwritten scores, which were sold to the highest bidder, have been revived by a suitable player more than three centuries later. Russe did not play the pieces in order, but rather grouped them together like a suite in key to create a sense of unity. We were fortunate to be able to acquire a restored harpsichord made by Nicolas Dumont in 1704, which was used for the recording. Most of the arrangements are from Lully's operas, but Rousset, who has studied the originals more than anyone else, has done a divine job.
